Assignment 12
Segment
Students aged 16-30
Interview One
For the first interview I talked to Emily who has coffee on campus about 3 times a week. She does carry her own water bottle around campus every day. Emily explained that she always tries to make the smarter decision environmentally when faced with the opportunity. When going into starbucks, Emily explained that the need occurs when she realizes that she can’t have her water as well because she wants to fill her cup up with coffee. When searching for a solution, Emily simply gets a cup of water; however, she explained that she wished there was a cleaner alternative for her to make a smarter decision.
Interview Two
For the second interview I talked to Karissa. Karissa loves coffee and drinks it on campus daily, she explained to me that she brings her own water bottle and has a reusable coffee cup but doesn't bring the coffee cup to campus. The need for her begins when she is ordering the coffee and having to make the decision between coffee or water. In this situation I think the need is to have the accessibility to walk around with the coffee cup so it could be more convenient. When searching for a solution, Karissa simply just goes to the water fountain if she needs water. Although it’s inconvenient, its less inconvenient than carrying around an extra cup all day.
Interview Three
Lastly I interviewed Thomas. When he gets coffee on campus, which is almost every day, he might bring a cup if she remembers and if it’s planned ahead, however even when he does bring a cup he puts coffee in one and then gets a water cup. He said that this need occurs when he is drinking the coffee, but then wants water. When Thomas starts to search for information to fill the need, he said he first bought a reusable cup but then stopped using it because it’s too inconvenient.
In these interviews I discovered that yes the need is from people who drink coffee, however not all coffee drinkers. People do have this need however the solutions currently offered to this need are not anymore convenient. Additionally people who do not care about the environment or their waste will not have this need. However I have found that with the increasing trend of climate change, that the want/need for being environmentally friendly is steadily increasing. I think that after the interviews I can see when the real need is and it’s not for general coffee drinkers. I think that when given the opportunity, consumers especially college students will choose the environmentally friendly version. I think that entrepreneurs should definitely adapt their opportunities completely based on customer feedback and that is one of the most important things to do to be successful.
