1) What was the general theme or argument of the book? 2) How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003? 3) If you had to design an exercise for this class, based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve? 4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your expectations?  The book I chose to do this reading reflection on was  The Art of Social Media: Power Tips for Power Users by Guy Kawasaki. The general theme for this book was how to use social media to build yourself a business and a platform to reach as many people as you can and use it to your advantage . 2. The one part of the book that connected to the class was that in the book it taught you ways and how to put yourself out there. Like how to get your ideas to the largest audience possible, and notice trends before they become mainstream. In this class, we ha...

Assignment 19

I am Cara Leydig I am studying business and sustainability. I care about the environment and believe that we should all be taking actions to be environmentally friendly and we should all care about it. I see this business playing a role in my daily life because this was a problem I had for many years.  I am offering a system where you can go to Starbucks, Dunkin etc. and when you came and ordered, you had the option to use one of the reusable cups, or a plastic cup (to go), and after your study session or coffee date, you could return the cup and be guilt free.  I am offering this system to people who buy coffee or products from coffee places and stay for a while, more specifically students who study at the library or businesses who have meetings at coffee shops.  The customers care because they care about 1. Their coffee and 2. The environment and don’t mind having a nicer, reusable cup instead of a plastic one.  What sets me apart from everyone else is tha...

Assignment 18

The kind of hobbies my customer has is socializing. I think they like to meet with their friends at a coffee place and catch up on life. I think they like to chill, and relax and have a pick me up coffee during the day. The car they tend to drive is more on the expensive side, I would say probably at least a Honda. Usually probably a Mercedes. I think they would have either a white or black car mostly black. I think they watch shows like friends and The office. I think most of them also watch the bachelor/bachelorette. I don’t think that most of these customers have children yet, I think they are more in their teens and young adulthood. I don’t think many of them are adopted either I think most of them are probably an only child or come from a wealthy your family. I think their favorite books would include writers like John Green. More of the customers that would come in would be on the younger side however the customers on the older side would feel as if they were still youn...

Assignment 17

Describe what stood out to you as important, what feedback surprised you the most, what feedback you think was outright wrong or silly, what feedback you thought was most useful and insightful.  What I thought the best part about my elevator speech is the hook. I got a lot of responses saying that it was very capturing and got the consumers attention easily and quickly.  The feedback the surprised me the most was the mainly positive reaction. I thought some feedback that was kind of silly was that I use my hands a lot because I don't even notice it. The most useful and insightful feedback was to explain the product more. The viewers told me that they loved the idea and concept however they wanted to know a little more.

Assignment 16

I am a very compassionate person and put others feelings before mine. I am confrontational. I am not afraid to get out of my comfort zone. I have a sarcastic unique sense of humor.  I have common sense. I interviewed my roommate Emily and she said that my best qualities are my positivity and determination, my strengths are focus and being a dependable person. She told me I was different because I always try and make good out of any situation. I interviewed my best friend Karissa and she told me that what makes me different is that I always speak my mind and I’m not a fake person. She told me that my best qualities are that I’m always down to have a good time and have fun and that I’m hardworking. My strengths are my organization and communication skills and my weakness is I sometimes have too much fun.  I interviewed my best friend Kai and she told me that my two best qualities is that I’m understanding and honest. She told me that my weaknesses...

Assignment 15

Emily is a consumer that fits into my segment. Emily explained to me that when she becomes aware of the need, she automatically goes to the Starbucks closest to her which is usually at the Starbucks at Marston Science Library. Emily chooses her product on convenience and what she’s used to. Emily buys in store every time, she gets a different drink depending on her mood and the weather, and she doesn’t mind waiting in line. Emily uses a credit card or a rewards app when purchasing. Emily told me that usually if the coffee tastes good, she feels good about the purchase. However usually she does feel bad because of the steep price of starbucks.  Caleb is the second consumer that fits into my segment. Caleb told me that when he becomes aware of the need, he goes to the Dunkin’ Donuts on Newberry road. Caleb chooses his product based on what he knows and price. Caleb buys his coffee in store because he is usually looking at the products available and the seasonal products they p...

1)For this course, I have definitely used my brain in a completely different way. It started with the bug list and making me really notice things that bugged me when I didn’t even notice they bugged me. Developing an opportunity into a product was fun, but seeing how other people viewed the product was a very interesting thing to see as well.  2)There have been many times where I have felt like giving up, sometimes I have sometimes I haven't. However, I have realized that after I gave up I felt guilty because I knew that if I didn’t give up, I would have succeeded. While going for a run and having a timed goal for a mile, and while trying to think of a good opportunity to carry on throughout the class I have felt like giving up.  3)  (1) Most definitely SET GOALS.  (2) Allow time for reflection. Wake up every day and have a purpose.  (3) Have a friend that supports your goal and keeps you on track.

Assignment 13

The book I chose to read was Coco Chanel , by Lisa Chaney. What I admired the most about this book was how it really explained how Gabrielle Chanel shaped the idea of womanhood in our time. What I admired the least was, I guess how it got kind of boring when  talking about the war and some of the language seemed a little choppy. Coco Chanel did encounter adversity about her fashion because it was different and broke womens fashion social norms. Chanel was extremely proficient in design and fashion. She was an icon and gave women the freedom to dress with their own unique expression. The book kind of got confusing when it started talking about the war and how it affected different countries, it just seemed a little off topic for me. I would want to ask what made her want to be such an influential model, and if she could go back in time and fix anything what would she fix. Although basic, I feel like the answers I would get would be really interesting. I think Chanel’s opinion of ha...

Assignment 12

Segment Students aged 16-30  Interview One For the first interview I talked to  Emily who has coffee on campus about 3 times a week. She does carry her own water bottle around campus every day. Emily explained that she always tries to make the smarter decision environmentally when faced with the opportunity. When going into starbucks, Emily explained that the need occurs when she realizes that she can’t have her water as well because she wants to fill her cup up with coffee. When searching for a solution, Emily simply gets a cup of water; however, she explained that she wished there was a cleaner alternative for her to make a smarter decision. Interview Two For the second interview I talked to Karissa. Karissa loves coffee and drinks it on campus daily, she explained to me that she brings her own water bottle and has a reusable coffee cup but doesn't bring the coffee cup to campus. The need for her begins when she is ordering the coffee and having to make the decision b...
